Cancer-Fighting foods and Juice

I often recommend making juices and smoothies. Not only is making a juice or a smoothie simpler than cooking a meal from scratch but it also provides you with a nutrient dense glass of deliciousness. I like to think of it as a direct deposit into each and everyone of our cells. If you are dealing with cancer or are implementing a cancer-free lifestyle balancing your meals is top priority. Here are my favorites that are full of anti-oxidants and cancer fighting properties.

1.Tomato

Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called lycopene. According to different research studies, people who eat a lot of tomatoes have a decreased risk of developing certain cancers like stomach, prostate and lung cancer. Lycopene also helps decrease risks of heart disease, macular degenerative disease, and lowers inflammation throughout the body.

2.Turmeric

This orange-colored spice, a staple in Indian curries, contains an ingredient called curcumin (not the same as cumin) that might be useful in reducing cancer risk. According to the American Cancer Society, curcumin can inhibit some kinds of cancer cells in laboratory studies and slow the spread of cancer or shrink tumors in some animals. Turmeric is easy to find in grocery stores,

3.Lemons

Lemons are packed with vitamin C that can reduce risks of developing cancer and also decrease inflammation throughout the body. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps eliminate free radicals and also enhances the immune system. Vitamin C has been shown to prevent tumors from developing. Alternative therapies already use high dose vitamin C to treat different cancers. Lemon extract has been shown to destroy malignant cells of breast, colon and lung cancer while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

4. Berries

As a tasty treat, berries are hard to beat. But their juicy goodness also may make them one of the foods to fight cancer. Berries contain particularly powerful antioxidants, meaning they can halt a naturally occurring process in the body that creates free radicals that can damage your cells. Compounds in berries may also help keep cancers from growing or spreading. So, as part of your anti-cancer diet, pick up a handful of blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, or any other favorite berries today.

5.Ginger

Ginger can kill cancerous cells in two ways. The two ways that ginger kills cancerous cells is first by apoptosis and second by autophagy. Apoptosis is where the cancerous cell “commits suicide” and destroys itself and autophagy occurs when the cancerous cells eat themselves and ultimately are destroyed.

Ginger has been shown to help fight ovarian cancer. Researchers from the University of Michigan found that ginger caused ovarian cancer cells to die. Researchers used ginger powder and applied it to ovarian cancer cell cultures and results proved that ginger increased cell death of cancerous cells.
