 Enjoying a Party

I love to host dinner parties. I find it fun to plan, think, organize, create, execute and treat my friends and family to a special occasion. BUT, I realize not everyone feels this way. For some of you, hosting parties can be stressful and overwhelming and when it’s over you are left totally depleted. Well, no one should feel like that! Parties are supposed to be fun – for everyone! So, I put together some easy tips to help you feel more in control before and during the big day. Thereby, helping you enjoy your party too!

1.Set the mood
Depending on your event, it is important to set the right mood. If it is a corporate event where you are trying to impress a client, be sure to set a more serious and welcoming tone. If you are hosting a dinner party for your closest friends, set a casual tone by adding your favorite décor, playing shared music interests, and even using more casual dinnerware.

2.Walk
Go for a walk before the party. A nice, long walk will get your head in the right space to enjoy your party. Walking reduces stress and, in turn, may help cravings lessen. It also helps boost your mood as a result of having spent time investing in self-care. This feeling usually will persist until party time.

3.Create the perfect playlist
Music can make or break an event. Smooth jazz will not be a great choice for a reunion or celebration, while upbeat pop will never work for a corporate event. Choose your music according to your guests! The evening will have a better flow when it is matched to the right music.

4.Eat as much of the healthy options as you desire
Remember that parties are meant to be enjoyed! Don’t restrict yourself by thinking you’re on a diet. Remember when I asked you to Ditch your Diet earlier this year? Look at the available options, make the best choice possible and enjoy!

5.Don’t save anything for the last minute
I always think I can finish everything up on the day of the party.  But Murphy’s Law always wins out, and I end up running around frantically trying to pull something together that throws my schedule completely out the window.
Get all the party favors ready a few days in advance.  Make sure the cake is ordered, and someone else is scheduled to pick it up.
If you’re making the cake, make it the day before and keep it somewhere cool, the kids will never know the difference.
Have all the equipment for the games made, or purchased at least a week in advance, and try them out with the birthday guest of honor.  You will be able to work through any quirks and gain a better understanding of whether or not the rest of the guests will enjoy the game.
