Rickets is a disease caused by lack of vitamin D in children. Lack of vitamin D makes it impossible for a child’s body to absorb calcium and phosphorus leading to weak bones. In adults, this disease is called osteomalacia. 
The origin of the term Ricket can be traced back to the Anglo-Saxon word ‘wrikken’ which means “to twist”. 1. Cod Liver Oil Remedy for Rickets
Cod liver oil has been the favorite remedy of yesteryears’ mothers. And why not! In the beginning of twentieth century, poor children were the easy victims of rickets. The discovery of vitamin D and the anti-rachitic properties of cod-liver oil by 1930s were the major benchmarks that got the United States get rid of rickets. Even before this discovery, northern Europeans used cod liver oil to get relief from rheumatism, aching joints, and stiff muscles, way back since 17th century! Cod liver oil has large quantities of vitamins A, D, and omega-3 fatty acids. While vitamin A, among other health benefits, is essential for immune system and growth of bone, Vitamin D is the major compound that prevents and treats rickets along with improving muscle function. It also prevents type 1 diabetes, hypertension, and some common cancers. It, thus, seems wise to have cod liver oil for rickets even if it tastes bad.
Do this:
Take 1 tsp of cod liver oil daily. Liquid cod liver oil smells but you can find flavored versions too. However, too much usage of scents and flavors may leave oil rancid. Thus go for mild flavors or the plain cod liver oil.

2.Horsetail Tea
Horsetail tea contains many mineral salts that include mostly silica along with manganese, potassium, magnesium and other trace minerals. This herbal remedy is treated as one of the best remedies for treating the rickets why because the silica or silicone that contained in this horsetail will be converted into the natural calcium by your body, when you take this herb internally.
However, this horsetail is very effective for the people those who are suffering with anemia and other general debility and also used to cleanse and heal the wounds. Other than this, it also used to heal the fractured bones quickly. The silicon in this horsetail helps to find protein molecules together in the connective tissues and the blood vessels.

Ingredients:
Horsetail herb (fresh or dried) – 1 teaspoon
Boiling water – 2 cups
Vessel or pan
Process:
Take a vessel or pan and place this horsetail herb in it.
Then pour boiling water over this herb in that pan.
Now cover it and allow it to steep for about 3 – 7 minutes.
Strain the tea in a cup with the help of sieve or strainer.
Have this tea after completing your meals.
Make sure that you have to drink 1 ½ cup of horsetail herbal tea per day after having the meals. So you have to divide this 1 ½ cup of tea into 2 – 3 meals but never drink more than this quantity of tea in a day, as it causes some side effects if exceed the quantity.
Do this drinking of horsetail herbal tea daily after meals to get complete cure from the rickets.

3.Calcium Rich Diet for Rickets
While lack of vitamin D leads to non-absorption of calcium by the body, there is yet another consequence of not having dietary calcium. When the minerals, calcium and phosphates, lower in the blood, the body starts producing hormones which cause calcium and phosphate to be released from the bones. This results in weak and soft bones. Therefore, along with vitamin D, calcium rich diet is also essential to prevent and cure rickets.

4.Moti Bhasma – Pearl Ash
This is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy in which the moti bhasma or pearl ash which is considered as a unique treatment for rickets. Pearls are rich in natural calcium and are beneficial for those people who lacks in this mineral. Pearl (Mytilus Margaritiferus) is generally composed of calcium, zinc, selenium, strontium, traces of magnesium, and other variety of amino acids.
This bhasma is also available in powder form in many health stores which sells the AYurvedic products. This bhasma is generally made with the special efforts where this pearl’s natural components are decreased to their sulphide or oxide forms. This pearl is a purified and thus it reduces the oxide through calcinations.
Ingredients:
Moti bhasma – 60 to 125 mg
Honey – 1 to 2 teaspoons
Process:
Take a small bowl and place this moti bhasma in it.
Then add honey to it and stir it well.
Drink this mixture to get relief from the rickets.
Continue having this mixture for twice daily until your children has cleared all the signs and symptoms of rickets.
But make sure that you have to take this moti bhasma under the expert’s guidance of the Ayurvedic practitioner.

5. Dandelion Herbal remedy for Rickets
Dandelion herb is very rich in nutrients. Dandelion root and leaves are a good source of vitamins like vitamin A, C, D, and B-complex. They are also high in minerals iron, magnesium, zinc potassium, manganese, copper, choline, calcium, boron, and silicon. This is one of the herbs that nutritionists recommend for rickets too.

6.Tofu
In the problem of rickets the body does not absorb calcium and as a result of which you suffer from a lot of bone problems. It is therefore recommended to get the required amount of calcium through your diet and it is very important to include products like tofu, soy beans, nuts etc to your routine to get the benefits.

7.Milk

Since vitamin D deficiency is the main cause of the problem and therefore it is very important to include food items rich in vitamin D in your diet to cope up with the required demand  and milk is one of the best sources of vitamin D.
