Benefits of melons:-
1.Helps in weight loss
Musk melons have negligible fat content in them. They also contain the good carbohydrates derived from sugars which are easily broken down by the body. Their water content is also very high. Their seeds contain a special fibre in them which helps in losing weight. They contain really high content of potassium which helps in losing belly fat.
2.Heart Health
Galia melons can help heart health in two ways. With its high levels of dietary fiber, it can help to reduce “bad” cholesterol in the body, which can protect against atherosclerosis. Also, due to the high potassium content, which acts as a vasodilator, your blood pressure can be reduced, lowering your chances of developing coronary heart disease, or suffering a stroke/heart attack.
3.Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin that plays an important role in the growth and maintenance of all tissues in your body. It functions in wound healing and repair of cartilage, bones and teeth. Adults should receive 90 mg per day of vitamin C. A 1-cup serving of cantaloupe provides 65 mg of vitamin C. One cup of casaba melon provides 37 mg of vitamin C, and honeydew provides 30 mg.
4.Controls blood pressure
Muskmelons are rich in potassium which helps in regulating the blood pressure and keeps hypertension at bay.
5.Vitamin A
Vitamin A is important for healthy teeth, skin, bone and mucous membranes. It helps the vision system by promoting retinal health. Insufficient vitamin A may lead to poor functioning of the immune system. Cantaloupe is high in vitamin A, with more than 25 percent of the recommended daily amount in a 1-cup serving.
6.Immune System and Cancer Prevention
Galia melons are packed with nutrients that can protect your body from illness, including high levels of vitamin C, which stimulates the immune system, vitamin A, which acts as an antioxidant, as well as carotenoids and bioflavonoids, which also act as antioxidants. These components eliminate or neutralize free radicals, which can cause cancer. Galia melons contain organic compounds that have been directly linked to reducing lung, oral, colon, and breast cancer.
7.Preparation and Serving Tips
Some people like melons only slightly chilled or even room temperature, but watermelons taste best when they're served icy cold. A multicolored melon-ball salad topped with fresh, chopped mint makes a pretty dessert. Chilled melon soup is a refreshing change of pace in hot weather. And the natural cavity left in a cantaloupe after removing the seeds is a perfect place for fillers like nonfat yogurt or fruit salad. Squeeze a little lemon or lime juice onto cut melon for extra flavor.
