A bowl of soup helps you stay warm and cozy during the cold winter. We are not necessarily talking about soups with lots of heavy cream and grease, but soups that contain chicken or vegetable broth and a variety of vegetables, beans, and lean meat – the kinds of ingredients that can help you stay on a healthy diet.Vegetables and meat come with a variety of good nutrients, but it’s often hard to eat all your nutritionally rich foods at once.  Soup is a great way to incorporate seasonal veggies and combine a range of healthful ingredients together to offer nutrients that are important for the health and growth of your children!

Most soups, if made with lean meat, are low in fat, making them a good choice for anyone concerned about fat in his diet. To further reduce the fat content of your soup without sacrificing flavor, chill it and skim off the fat before reheating and serving.

You can throw a variety of ingredients into a slow cooker in the morning before you leave for work or school and return home to a delicious meal in the evening. The healthiest soups include fresh, low-fat ingredients and a minimum of salt and extra fat. You can use up leftovers in a soup pot and create new variations of favorite recipes, since soup lends itself to experimentation.
