Home Remedies for Damaged Hair
The summer sun and water can dry it out as can the snowy winter.
Chemicals and heat from coloring and styling can harm it even more.
Some common home treatments for damaged hair help in restoring damaged hair and preventing hair damage.
My friend has tried these time tested treatments at home.
1.Vinegar for Hair Repair
Though vinegar might have an intoxicating smell, it does wonders to repair damaged hair. Take a small amount of vinegar and rub into the scalp of the hair. Let is soak in the hair for about half an hour. You can see good results after your hair is washed.
2.Vitamin E for Hair Repair
Fabulous hair repair tip! Vitamin E capsules are a CHEAP and fantastic remedy for dry hair, split ends and damaged hair. Take about 20 or so capsules and cut them open with a pair of small scissors. Take the gel and put on the ends of your damaged hair. It is tedious and time consuming but it really works!
Continue until all ends are covered. Work the gel in well and leave on your hair for at least an hour. I left mine on 2 hours while I cleaned house. Then shampoo and style as usual. You won't believe the difference! Try it
3.Egg for Hair Repair
Is the best remedy for damaged hair. Applying the egg yolk to the hair shows good results. It makes the hair healthy, gives it a shine and bounce. It also gets rid of split ends and the hair does not remain brittle any longer.
Above all it repairs damaged hair. Beat the egg in a bowl and remove the white of the egg. Apply it to the hair and let it stay for half an hour before you wash it with a mild shampoo.
4.Banana and Honey Hair Mask
Take an overripe banana and mash it with a little water, until you have a thick paste. Add 2 tablespoons of organic honey and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Mix up all these ingredients. Strain the mixture through a sieve so that there are no banana chunks in the concoction. Apply this mask on dry hair and leave it on for half an hour. Wash the mask off with water. This mask will repair and hydrate the hair, and make it soft and glossy.
5.Coconut Oil for Dry or Damaged Hair
I love to use coconut oil on my long color treated blonde hair. I do not know how this treatment would work for other colors of color treated hair, but it did not fade my blonde color at all. It is also safe for non color treated hair.
I simply apply extra virgin coconut oil to my hair and leave it on for a while. I have left on for as little as a half hour to a few hours depending on how much time to have to let it soak in. You can even apply at night and sleep with a plastic shower cap on overnight for even better results. This may not be comfortable to some people, so I recommend at least letting it soak on your hair for 30 minutes.
If the coconut oil you buy is in more of a solid state rather than a liquid you can microwave the desired amount you wish to apply to your hair for about 10-15 seconds depending on how strong your microwave is. You just want it to be in a liquid state for ease of applying it. Rinse hair out well after, then shampoo and condition as normal.
I noticed a result using coconut oil on my very dry, damaged, color-treated blonde hair immediately. I also have found this to be cheaper than those expensive hair mask treatments you buy from the salon and with better results.
6.Avocado and Olive Oil Mask
Avocado is rich in vitamin A, vitamin E, and saturated fats. This makes it ideal for providing nourishment to dehydrated and damaged hair. In a small bowl, mash half a ripe avocado with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Combine it well until you have a thick consistency which is non-lumpy. Apply this to damp hair after shampooing and rinsing. Leave the mask on for about 20 - 30 minutes, and wash it off thoroughly with lukewarm water.
7.Mayonnaise and Honey Mask
If you have very coarse and dry hair, then you will certainly benefit from this mask. Mix a quarter cup of mayonnaise with two tablespoons of honey, one tablespoon of avocado oil and coconut oil. Pulse this in a blender until you have a thick but spreadable consistency. Apply this natural hair mask to your hair from the roots to the tips. Wash off the mask with lukewarm water.
