Home Remedies for Abscessed Tooth
A tooth abscess is a painful collection of infected pus caused by a bacterial infection that enters through either a dental cavity or a chip or crack in the tooth. It then spreads to the root causing pain, swelling, and inflammation.

An abscess can occur from poor dental hygiene, irregular dental checkups, high sugar or sticky food intake, dental infections, gum diseases, gingivitis, or weak immune system. Found mainly on the center of the tooth either at the tip of the root (periapical) or in the gums next to tooth (periodontal), symptoms include severe toothache, throbbing pain, fever, swollen neck glands, bitter taste in mouth, foul smelling breath, sensitivity to heat or cold, redness or swelling of the gums, swollen jaw, and general discomfort.

When left untreated, an abscess can lead to serious tooth decay, even life-threatening complications. Always consult a dentist as early as possible so that the abscess can be drained and rid of infection. Either a root canal will be performed or the tooth will be pulled altogether to prevent infection and spreading.
