Hot Flashes and Menopause
Men’s have their own version of menopause – It’s called 

Andropause.

1. Symptoms of Hot Flashes

  • Hormones – Aging: As a man grows older, his body generates less testosterone, the sex hormones, and androgen. When testosterone and androgen levels both drop below normal, hot flashes or night sweats may occur. This may also cause decrease in his sex drive. This condition often occurs during the man’s 50, but sometimes it can happen as early as the mid to late 30’s.
  • Cancer or Tumor: In a few case, the cause is prostate or testicular cancer. Due to any of these cancers, the hormone levels may fluctuate causing hot flashes. If you get hot flashes or night sweats accompanied with testicle pain, you should consult your doctor soonest possible. A tumor located on the pituitary gland or hypothalamus can also cause hot flashes or night sweats.
  • Illness and Medications: Sometimes hot flashes occur due to some infection or medical treatments. Tuberculosis or HIV can cause hot flashes in both men and women. Certain medical treatments, like hormone deprivation therapy too can cause hot flashes. It can also be due to side effects of some antibiotics or certain medications.
  • Diet – Cause for Hot Flashes: In a very few cases, a reaction to the food additive Monosodium Glutamate (GSM) may be a cause for hot flashes. Consumption of alcohol and spicy foods can also be a cause for hot flashes in some cases.

  • Men who get hot flashes should seek medical help to get it diagnosed, since there could be some underlying serious health disorder.
  • The doctor will suggest you a blood test to find out if there is any testosterone deficiency which is known as male hypogonadism.

4. How to prevent Hot Flashes:
