As per an American study, the raspberry ketones in raspberries were found to have a weight loss potential in preliminary tests on rodents. Similar findings could be possible in humans, though further research is required in this aspect. The raspberry ketones were also found to prevent weight gain in mice due to a high-fat diet. Ellagic acid is a phytonutrient component of raspberries with key substances like kaempferol, quercetin, and the cyanidin-based molecules called cyanidin-3-rutinoside and cyanidin-3-glucosyl-rutinoside. These flavonoid molecules are again broken into anthocyanins, which give raspberries their rich, red color. The anthocyanins of raspberries are responsible for their unique antioxidant properties and also some antimicrobial ones. One group of participants drank 16 to 20 ounces of a commercial blueberry juice every day for two months while the control group drank a non-juice beverage. At the end of the study, the group who drank blueberry juice showed significant improvements on tests for learning and memory compared to the control group.
