Tips for lipstick to stay longer
1. Lightly scrub away the top surface of your lips with a damp toothbrush to get rid of dull, dry skin cells.
2. With a brush, gently wipe a light concealer over the lips. This gives you a nice clear line for when you add your lip liner. It also creates a nice base for your lipstick, bringing out its true color.
3. Lipsticks marketed as long-wearing generally live up to their labels. These formulas usually contain additional pigment and fewer emollient ingredients, so they take longer to wear away than creamier products. Many long-wearing formulas contain silicone, an inert ingredient that forms a protective layer on lips. Because silicone does not mix with the oils in foods and on skin, it does not wear off as quickly.
4. Apply a lip balm without sunscreen before going to bed. In the morning, lips will feel soft and smooth. Gently rub the lips with a washcloth to remove excess balm and chapped skin. This mild exfoliation creates a smooth surface for a neater lipstick application.
5. Use a sharpened, neutral lip liner around the edge of the lips. Blend it softly in or you won't be left with any definition once you apply your lipstick.
6. Place a thin layer of tissue over the lips and apply loose or pressed powder through the tissue to set the lipstick in place. The tissue gives a finer coverage of powder going through to the lips so that you aren't removing the lip color -- you're just matting it down and setting it in place.
7. Just like liquid foundation needs to be set with a powder, a bit of powder on top of your lipstick keeps it from moving out of place. I dapple a little bit on my index finger, blot on to my lips, and smack them together to rub it in. You barely need to use any – I got a sample of LUSH’s Emotional Brilliance Translucent powder and I’ve been very slowly working my way just through that, but I think most translucent powders will work fine.
